Hello,
I was wondering if there's a M4L device I can monitor what MIDI is coming into a track, i.e. Note on/off, velocity, channels, CC#s and values, sysex, etc.
I think you can buy an app that monitors MIDI ports but if there's a max for live device it's probably easier and maybe free!
I'm currently trying to work out exactly what MIDI messages some buttons on a device send, in the hope of then building my own M4L device to control with it. I can MIDI map it but it behaves odd and only turns things off: may be momentary, not toggle, but that's what I'd like to find out as it may have other messages too as one of them is 3-way toggle switch. I may be back to bother you all once I know what it does and start building my first thing.
Cheers!
P.S. Is it possible to build a M4L device that acts as an automated rack, which I can then put Ableton synths and/or instrument racks in it? Or is it best to build a custom chain selector that just tries to send commands to select chains from a separate Live instrument rack?
Is there a MIDI content displaying device in M4L?

I'd go for a MIDI Monitor app... i found a free one quite easily and it's useful as it sits outside of Live so you can check whether the Controller is working properly...
That said the MIDI objects of Max make it really easy to see, try midi parse first...
Cheers

I'll have a go with the M4L ones, but out of interest, which free app do you use? Might check that our too.S4racen wrote:I'd go for a MIDI Monitor app... i found a free one quite easily

Check out the https://www.ableton.com/en/packs/gratis-hits/
pack. Among other things there's a MIDI Monitor.
Best,
