why do my objects disappear when i close the patch??

this is sending me nuts - im trying to do a simple thing, just put some dials and buttons on a device but no matter what i do i cant get them to show up in the device view when i close the device and try and view it in ableton, it's blank

i've selected add to presentation for each dial and moved them into the right position in presentation mode and selected show on lock in their inspectors but for some reason they dont want to show up

i know it'll probably be something simple but i've drawn a blank so far so hopefully someone here can help

haven't downloaded but
right click on patcher empty space
select "patcher inspector"
select "Open in Presentation"

oh thank christ for that - i thought i was going mental. i knew it was something daft i was missing

sometimes as well, good to know, great for patch cables : cmd + k (hide) / cmd + l (show).
