I just tested this in live 8 and it does not work. I have patches with plugin~ plugout~ midiin. I think you can work around the bug by sending data between two patches.

One of the max 7 live devices is a midi routing bus.its basically a cleverly implemented send receive pair. Using send and receive for midi works well for me.
