MK16-185 Sequencer [Release]
MK16-185 Sequencer [Release]
Ciao,
I just updated the ML-185 Stage Controlled Sequencer originally made by Nico Starke for my own workflow.
There are many sequencers available, but editing the device with knobs – analog style – is much more fun and somehow I get better results.
Max isn’t really comfortable for designing User Interfaces so I had to trick to get workarounds in some points. And actually I am a beginner playing around at night with Max in the Studio.
But first:
The original version's license is „attribution". This means to me: I can modify and share the device for non-commercial use but link to the original owner. Is this right?
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... -sequencer
Introduction:
The biggest request by users is a 16 step version and this also was my motivation to modify the device.
MK16-185 Sequencer
I didn’t tested it much but it seems to work fine.
For the MK16-185 Sequencer I had to reduce the pulse time to 4 ( was 8 ) because the live.step module only can handle 64 steps.
Which means if I put the pulse time to 8 it needs 128 steps (16x8). I don’t know but maybe someone knows how to chain 2 live.step modules to get 128 steps.
EDIT:
I released the device on maxforlive.com:
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... -sequencer
Changelog:
Version 1.5
- New interface and graphics
- Improved randomize section
- Select between two skins
- Minimize button to scale the width of the device to save space
- Set global play mode
Version 1.0.1
- Fixed a bug where the note duration is longer then a tick, especially on 1/32 and 1/16 timing. The note duration now depends on timing.
Version 1.0
- On/Off-Button
- MIDI-Through on main interface
- Save and load presets which will be stored into the Live project
- 1/4 Timing
- 16 Knob Stages
- Randomize and Clear for all settings (excluding division)
- You can adjust the range for randomizing
- Switch between semitones and MIDI-notes
- New Interface
Thanks

Re: MK8-185 and MK16-185 Sequencer
Yes. Go ahead. This looks like a nice enhancement. Don't forget that the ML-185 is based on the fantastic hardware sequencer from RYK, so all props should really go to him.Kapetan wrote: The original version's license is „attribution". Re: MK16-185 Sequencer [Release]
your device is just wonderful, i am using it to replace the ML-185 -I love the additional steps and the random range. some funky basslines came out in no time. Push does not update the stage lenght on the display but this is not a problem for me.
Thanks for your work. I really love this sequencer!

Good work! Thanks
Re: MK16-185 Sequencer [Release]
I updated the device to version 1.0.1. There was an issue where the note duration was longer than a tick when the timing was set to 1/32 or 1/16. Hope everything works fine now.
