Live 11 – 'Inspired by Nature' bug?

Post by matimin » Wed Feb 24, 2021 9:42 am

Playing with the new M4L 'Inspired by Nature', there is no way to see the interface (e.g. emit), both in mode Emitter and Wall. Even in tree-tone I don't see the tree graphics.

Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Thanks

Windows? Mac?
Make sure your Max is using GL2 and not GL3.

Hmm, so your issue is coming from elsewhere... Can you provide some details about your setup?

Display: 42inch 4k tv (wouldn't be surprised if the scaling were messing with it)
Intel PC (windows 10), way above minimum requirement
GTX 1060 Graphics
Ableton Live 11 Suite
Max Version:
The version that im guessing is installed is 8.1.9. Except after opening max in live and being told to update it I downloaded the installer and installed the newest version. However the max console in live still informs me that version 8.1.10 is available and it hasn't updated. The standalone max has updated.

The issue is that, for example with the Emit device, the area in which the spectrum and emitter box is displayed is zoomed in by a lot to the bottom left corner (almost looks like the ratio of a 1080p screen to a 4k screen). I cannot click and drag the emitter into frame either. This happens with all the Inspired By Nature devices that use this display area. In the console i sometimes get an "ob3d has no screengraph" error when i open the device. I have tried installing and using viddll after seeing it in recommended in console to no avail. The drop-down menu for gl version does not open and is on gl2.

Hope that's enough info, thank you for trying to help me out with this

Once you've downaloded the latest Max 8.1.10 you need to go to Live's Preferences > "File folder", and from you'll find the option to select the external Max standalone. Close and re-open Live for the change to be applied.

It wouldn't hurt to try with another (non 4K) screen too.

macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
MacBook Pro Late 2013 15 inch connected via HDMI to external 27 inch 1080p monitor by HP
Ableton Live 11.0.1
max 8.1.10

I have the same issues with all the inspired by nature devices.
When I open the patch in max it scales correctly:

Image

Debug efforts:
- Manually update max from 8.1.9 to 8.1.10
- Changing display resolution on MacBook Screen and external Monitor
- Uninstall and reinstall the Inspired by Nature pack
- Tried to switch from OpenGL 2 to 3 (GL3 not available for me so default was already GL2)
- Change Live's Zoom Display value
- Change Live's Theme

None of the above fixed it.

Then I tried and unplugged my external Monitor and it scaled correctly!
Funny enough plugging it back in - the gui stayed scaled correctly as well on the external monitor.
So it must have something to do with max not detecting the current main display when more than one is used.
My MacBook's Retina Display has a higher native resolution than my external monitor which makes me guess that max thinks its active on the Mac's display instead of the external one, hence the wrong scaling.

Please fix this.

EDIT:
When deleting a device after unplugging and replugging the external monitor, the scaling is wrong again. So this is just a tempoary workaround.

^^this
Please fix this. It sucks that I cannot use my 4k display with these devices. They are awesome and I'm basically not able to use them because all I have is a 4k display.

*******FIXED*********

"Thank you so much for the help, you sent me down the correct path. For my specific case I navigated to Live 11 Shortcut *Right Click* Properties, Compatibility
, Change High DPI Settings, Enable program DPI (Use this setting to fix scaling problems…), Enable High DPI Scaling Override For Application.
Hope this info helps with any future hiccups people have. Thank you so much again for helping me fix this so fast." (My reply to Ableton Support, this is what worked for my specific issue with my 4k display)

Thank you for getting in touch with Ableton support, this is Simone.
I'm sorry to hear about this issue.

Driver Graphics Settings can affect this.
Please try setting the driver with these settings:

(Couldn't upload pictures but, In intel hd graphics, nvidia control panel or radeon settings, select application specific settings for your ableton live install and disable or choose use application default settings for all options there)

Make sure that the driver is set not to enhance the application settings.

If you have a dual GPU machine, you can try running Live with the other GPU:

(right click shortcut and chose run with graphics processor > integrated gpu)

Let me know if any of this helps.

All the best,
Simone
