Beat Repeat - with proper latency compensation

Post by jbone1313 » Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:41 pm

Anyone know of a Beat Repeat M4L device which handles latency properly?

As most of you probably know, Live does not compensate time-based effects, so if they are placed after latency-inducing devices, then their timing gets messed up.

It is conceivable - to me - that such a device could be built in M4L. It would probably need to NOT rely on Live's timeline. I mean, the note divisions could rely on the tempo, but the triggering of the repeat could be done with a MIDI note and the divisions of the beat would start from that trigger. In that way, it would be correctly tempo-aligned.

I have no M4L skills; otherwise I would have a go at building this.

I imagine a lot of people would find this useful. Being able to do beat repeats and stutters in Live without fretting about latency compensation would be amazing.
