Record Midi of M4L device on the same track?

Post by mr.ergonomics » Fri Oct 01, 2021 8:12 pm

I try to figure out if that is possible.

I'd like to record the Midi a M4L device is creating on the same channel. I guess that means using the M4L output as the track Midi input.

track -> M4L Midi device -> record on same track when REC is on

My workaround is to route it to another midi track, but that's so much overhead.

track -> M4L Midi device -> track 2

My use-case this: I want to generate midi on a virtual midi keyboard on the track with the mouse and record that, like using an external keyboard.

I’ve always done it the same way you are, as far as I know that’s the only way to do it?

In Live there is no other way, I'm sure.

My hope is that there is a way to in M4L to route the midi out from the M4l plugin directly to the track input that it can be recorded (I see no problem to ignore the midi in in the M4L to prevent feedback loops) or something like that.
