Grain Scanner
Hey! I must be missing something just got Grain Scanner by Amazing Noises. Fantastic instrument! However, there's no manual that I can find anywhere online, there are few tutorial videos on YouTube, and still, there's no mention of a very basic and peculiar bug - Grain Scanner does not save your dropped samples with the project or even with its own presets. I thought I've lost a good day's work today after reloading the project it became very obvious that instrument settings do get saved, but not the sample. Samples need to be manually reloaded each time you reopen a project. I did test various scenarios without much luck. I can not believe that it hasn't been fixed because Grain Scanner isn't a new piece of software. I know max4live devices often do feel buggy, but for €49 worth of software, I'd expect better.
Did anyone else experience something similar?
Cheers

Re: Grain Scanner
Works fine here. Both saved presets as projects recall the sample as expected (Live Suite 11.1.1, both Windows 11 and MacOS 12.2).
Did you check the packs section for updates of this pack?

Re: Grain Scanner
Well, I only downloaded it a couple of days ago, so presumably, it's the latest version.
Did some more testing and I think I found what the problem is.
If I drag and drop a sample from one of the Ableton Packs, where samples are stored within Package Contents, Grain Scanner has trouble remembering the directory path and on project reopening reloads the default sample from its own library. But, if I drag and drop a sample from anywhere else on my computer it seems to work as intended and when saving a project remembers where the samples are.

Re: Grain Scanner
Packs' samples are protected. This shouldn't be a problem from Grain Scanner, but apparently you've found a situation where it is.dariuszickus wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 8:45 amIf I drag and drop a sample from one of the Ableton Packs, where samples are stored within Package Contents, Grain Scanner has trouble remembering the directory path and on project reopening reloads the default sample from its own library. Can you report this to support@ableton.com please?

Re: Grain Scanner
Indeed, Ableton Pack samples look like ordinary .aif files, but it is not possible to Quick preview them, so they obviously have some kind of copy protection thing. To access it from Finder is not straightforward either. That might be it!
I'm happy to do more "beta testing" for Amazing Noises but what about my spent €49 ))
Yes. I will report it to support.

Never assume.dariuszickus wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 8:45 amWell, I only downloaded it a couple of days ago, so presumably, it's the latest version.
I did my tests with samples from packs, the core library and custom folders. All works as expected.

Can't find how to attach files/screenshots/images to forum posts?
Re: Grain Scanner
You need to host the images somewhere else, I use postimage.org personally.

Re: Grain Scanner
Hi! I saved samples into a different place, rather than just drag&drop files from the Ableton packs sidebar. That seems to solve the problem. Didn't test any further.
Tried running Max 8.3 with Ableton, version that just came out, that didn't work, project with several instances of Grain Scanner fell apart, weird clicks and pops, parameter settings did not play back correctly. Reverted to bundled version, all good again, but decided to print everything to audio. It feels a little unreliable with saving stuff.
Thanks

I’m curious to know how you managed to copy samples from packs. Usually I can’t do that because they are protected.dariuszickus wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:19 pmHi!
