I want to be able to manually change the short name of [live.dials] in order to change the way they appear when you need to automate them.
With scripting, I can rename the 'scripting name', but not the 'short name', used for the automation display.
Any idea ?
EDIT : As a workaround I can put the deceive in a Rack and map the dials to Macros. Macros' names can be changed. But I'd prefer to set it up directly in the M4L device if possible, for a few reasons.
Is it possible to change the 'short' scripting name of an object from the GUI ?

not sure if I understand you correctly (and very old request), but isn't the "short name" under the Parameter list view, exactly for that? At least that's what I always do

Yeah, when patching.
But the issue is I'd like to change them for the user, from the GUI, so it's saved within a Live Set.
Sorry that was quite unclear (it was only two months ago, but it took me a while to recall what I was looking for ! )

ah, sorry, don't think that's possible. The API doesn't have anything related to "short" "scripting" etc.

Not possible once a device is loaded into a set unfortunately...
_short.name is often the way to do these things, but unless it's initiated at the start it won't work, and I've tried a lot to acheive this and covered it in many calls with Ableton themselves citing the same "you can change a macro name so why not "argument"
Maybe things will change one day?!
Cheers
