How to make lessons in Live 7?

Post by misteron » Fri Dec 05, 2008 2:45 pm

I've tried this method from the old teragon wiki in web archive
http://web.archive.org/web/200801170628 ... s_(live_5)
but after following the instructions I tried opening the set and it causes Live to crash.

Both the .als and and .txt are so far empty.

Any help much appreciated,

Thanks
Ron

EDIT:
The link above doesn't work altho it is a direct copy of what shows in the address bar (?)
Instead go to
http://web.archive.org/web/200802140249 ... =Main_Page
then scroll down to find
"Keeping notes on your sets by adding your own lessons (Live 5)"
in the TIps and Tricks section

Alternatively (as the web archive pages are very slow to load) here is the info it gives:
Keeping notes on your sets by adding your own lessons (live 5)
From TeraWiki
(Redirected from Keeping note's on your sets by adding your own lessons (live 5))
Jump to: navigation, search
Keeping notes on your Live Set is very easy.

You just create one Set like you always do. Save it in your project folder and (maybe) make it self contained. Then make another folder inside that folder which is called "yourSetName Lessons". Inside this folder you create a normal Textfile which is called LessonsEN.txt. Look at the Picture (FolderView) for more information.

FolderView:

How to edit the Textfile and make Formattings:

$Page:

Lets you change what the Page which is currently viewed in Live is called. The kind of Text which appears on the top of the Lessons Section. If you want to have more than one Page. Just add another "$Page" followed by the title and you have another Page.

/:

Makes Text bold. You have to open the bold Text with a "/" and close it with another "/". Like: /My bold Text/

->:

With this small arrow you can have a dot at the front of every line with which you can make a list or something like that.

$Link followed by <>:

You can have a link appearing with this tag, which means that the Text directly followed by "$Link" is the Text you can read in the Lessons Section. The Text which is between "<" and ">", is the link which you are referring to. In our example: $Link Some linked Text <http://www.ableton.com> You can use this feature for making Text underlined too.

The last thing you can have is a Picture within that Lesson:

First save the Picture which you want to include in your Set inside the Lessons folder. Make it a TIF (Intel encoded). On PC normally all TIF Pictures are saved as Intel because it's native on these machines. On Mac you have to use special software. Maybe Graphic Converter [1] or GIMP [2]. Then you just type the full filename, such as MyPic.tif, and there you have it.

TextView:

This is what the result looks like:

The link is dead for me... and I don't have any idea as to why this would be crashing Live.. maybe its because the project file and text file are empty? Not really sure... wish I could help.

turns out it was because they were empty.
All the instructions on this for Live 5 work for me in Live7 except inserting links into lessons.
The link shows as a link (underlined etc) but doesn't do anything when clicked.

I've updated the linkage in the top post and included a copy of the page content.

I'll post back when I figure out how to insert links into lessons

I've used this tag successfully in lesson in Live 7 for external links:

$Link *Your Link Text* <http://yoursite.com/index.html>

Is this what you're after?

yeah that's hat I was using but I had omitted the 'http://' portion of the link.
Adding that to the URL makes it work.

Is there any way of preventing this behaviour:
When I open the set straight from the .als (without Live being already running) the set opens and displays my lesson momentarily but then flicks to the main lessons index (or what looks like it might be the main index if I had any lessons installed, which i don't)

Having Live already open before opening the set prevents the flick to main index but i would like it to be possible when launching Live from the .als
