newb question perhaps; sending cc messages to a midi synth?

Hello,

Forgive the newb inquiry if I'm missing something totally obvious--I'm getting familiar with the demo and I can't seem to find the answer in the manual...

I'm trying to send a defined CC# to a midi synth. The synth is all set up and receives information from Live just fine.. but I cannot seem to figure out how to set up a control to send a specific CC message to the synth (to modulate things like oscillator filters etc, midi CC #s taken from the synth manual). What am I missing? I've used the midi mapping tool, but that only seems to let me define hardware controls to modulate Live functions. I can't figure out how to set up a virtual knob/switch etc in Live to modulate my hardware via CC to midi out.

Help appreciated! Thank you

When you create a new clip, go down to the Envelopes section. Select MIDI control in the Device Chooser. Then check out Control Chooser. You can then draw an envelope in the editor that can control the parameters.

You can also set up dummy clips to control those changes.

Likewise, changing patches/presets on your Synth is also handled in the Notes part of the clip editor.

Good luck.

I think you have deduced correctly. MIDI mapping allows you to control Live.

To do the reverse, you have to draw stuff in using envelopes just the the previous poster said. To see the envelopes in the clip window, make sure the (E) button is pressed.

Having said that, I think there are 3rd party VST plugins that allow you to control specific CCs
