Exporting/importing Midi Controllers settings

Post by topey » Thu Feb 05, 2009 7:27 pm

Hi!

PowerBook G4 / OS 10.4 / Behringer U-Control UMA 25S

Does anyone have experience, if channel and preset settings that are made in midi controller ( UMA25S ) could be exported and saved to the computer, so that if for some reason midi controller has to be resetted to the factory presets, the manually made channel settings did not had to be done again.

Could it be done via Ableton Live or should there be another application for that?

Some kind on SysEx program?

As an answer to myself, and others who has made a similar decision of buying a midi controller which is not natively supported by ableton live:

U-Control can send and receive the data of manually programmed presets.

The computer has to have a special application for that transformation, for Macintosh there are few free- or shareware programs for that purpose, one of them SysExlibrarian worked fine for my system.

Here is a link:

http://koti.welho.com/tsuonio1/LIVE%20&%20UMA%2025S/

to the folder, where is the application, and a file, which contains presets for the UMA 25S controller so, that all the 16 presets are setted to different Channels :

Preset 1 uses Channel 1
Preset 2 uses Channel 2

etc.

Information about SysExlibrarian application can be found from:

http://www.snoize.com/

Instructions:

Place the application to your Applications folder and double click the file:

UMA 25S 16xChannel-Preset-090206

When it opens, choose the controller from the drop down menu, and just press "play" in application, and it should send all the data to the midi controller. That will take about 2-4 minutes. In Midi controller, there has to be done nothing, it receives the data automatically.

After that, make midi mapping in live to the session view clip slots to see if the presets are functioning properly.

Then, if channels are functioning, you can delete midi mappings, and start to program your own presets.

Some information which are probably needed :

About this process, read the UMA 25S User Manual Chapter 5.7

The Device ID was set to 1 when the data was exported, so it should be when received, I suppose thats the default.

If you use the preset file, please answer in this topic, if it was usable.
