Snapshots - possible in Live?

Post by nicogrubert » Fri Apr 03, 2009 8:35 am

Hi there

is it possible to have snapshots in Live?
Let me explain what I mean by "snapshot".

A snapshot is a saved state of everything in ableton's session view.
Let's say I have 8 clips playing. All SEND knobs have value "0%". I want to save this state in order to go back to this state after I changed a lot of values - e.g. I turned the SEND knobs on some tracks to "100%", changed some parameters of some VST plugins on the master, stopped 2 clips, etc.

Can I do this in live (version 6 or 7) and if so, how can I do this?

If anyone knows the Yamaha SU700 ... this machine has 8 snapshot buttons where you can save the current scene by holding down one of the 8 snapshot buttons for 2 seconds. To recall the saved snapshot just hit the button. This is an excellent live feature! :-)

Thanks in advance
Nico

live doesn't really have it.

But you can use arrangement view in a similar way.

Hit the global record button

set a locator every time you want to make a snapshot

press stop all clips.

Now when you can jump to the locators and still improvise with the clips from session view.

set a loop in arrangement if you need to stay in one section.

I almost thought Live does not have it. I think it will be an excellent feature for playing live.
Imagine you play something like break of a track. You move faders, turn knobs, going to the end of the break and then you call the snapshot to bring the beat back. ;-)
I loved this feature a lot when I was using the yamaha su700.

Fantastic idea. I used to rock the SU700 back in my techno days, and it was such a phenomenal little machine. +1 on this feature request.

Did any of you guys found a solution for this feature?

Searching really hard for it.

Thanks!

Another way to do this, without using M4L, is to set up a MIDI loop-back (where you send MIDI out of, then back into Live). Check this thread:

MBP M1Max | MacOS 12.7.2 | Live 11.3.20 | Babyface Pro FS | Push 3 (tethered) | a whole other bunch of controllers
