anyone know how I can turn audio to midi?
anyone know how I can turn audio to midi?
Hi-- I'm a clarinetist, and I'd love the ability to play clarinet through Live, and have Live double what I play with, say, a string section. I.e. I want Live to convert incoming audio into midi data, and then pass that data off to a midi instrument. Can anyone help me out here?
I'm on a Mac, so Midifier (http://www.knzaudio.com/index.php?midifier) isn't an option for me, alas. (I did write the developer of Midifier to ask about a Mac port though! No word yet.)
The closest I've come is with the Vocoder plugin, in Pitch Tracking mode. But I can only get basic synth sounds this way (sawtooth, square, etc).
Ideas?
Thanks!

Thanks for the tip on the g2m, Tone Deft! Not a bad-seeming little box for $100. & I have a pickup on the clarinet so the 1/4" input is no problem. (I see you're local/Bay Area, by the way! Cool.)
I'm still interested in hearing if anyone knows of an in-the-box method... Seems like if this $100 box can do it, my Macbook oughta be able to too!
Thanks

Re: anyone know how I can turn audio to midi?
I was just thinking:
If I am not wrong, clarinet only generates the 1st, 3d, 5th, 7th etc. harmonics. So, writing a clarinet-specific midi tracker should be useful and doable. Just an idea.

I am just saying this because tracking midi notes makes mistakes easily, because of the harmonic content of the sound. Nevermind.

Yamaha make a dedicated midi controlled instrument:
