i was told to freeze and then copy it over to an audio track, but with things like gates running live wont let me
what is the best way to do this for short samples etc.?

Use the new audio track to record your parts
set the i/p to resample this will sample from the master
say you only want to sample the drums solo the drums and any post aux effects will be recorded to.
