Tips to optimize vista?

Post by chapelier fou » Fri Jul 17, 2009 8:26 am

Hi, I got a new computer, with vista. Only for music, but I am not really happy with the performances, I got to run with a bigger buffer size than before to avoid clicks. Any simple ideas ?

Hey....

you can try to disable Superfetching under Services.

Furthermore you can disable system Restore:

If you have an USB stick plugin at the backside of your PC and select the ReadyBoost option in autoplay menue.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost

Energy Options - Desktop - turn off speedstepping in bios or set cpu usage to always 100% in extended settings

i hope it will help....

cheers

I am thinking of installing XP too... But it is so annoying, I just reinstalled everything, reauthorized, etc...

1. Install XP Pro if you can and ditch Vista.
2. If you must keep Vista, just Google 'Vista audio optimization tips' and you'll easily find dozens of web pages with the info you seek.

I uninstalled Vista, and installed the windows seven free release candidate. Sooooo much faster, especially when it's tweaked for optimization. U should try it!!

I'm told the 64-bit version of Vista is a better performer, and of course bonus points for being able to better manage RAM over 2GB (32-bit versions of Windows have some address space issues with actually being able to use the memory beyond 2ish gigs, no matter how much RAM you have installed).

You may also want to look into Windows 7, as the word from most of the testers I've spoken to is that the preview release is many times better than Vista.
