does anyone know what gear does JAMIE LIDELL is using ???

Post by sniffio » Sun Aug 29, 2004 7:41 pm

I admire him very much.
His music, his technics, his peronality, everythings he does is so amazing.
If anyone out here know anything about Jamie Lidell, please share the
information with us, please.
Hareware, software, anything would be appriciated!

So far, what I know from going to his gigs,
I noticed that he was using the G4 PB.
He also had a black box with a KORG stickers(?) which changed the sound
really crazy.
He also had JAZCO amplifier next to his gears with three different mics.
He had a somekind of synth or keyboard infront of him.
I think it was the analog mixer right in front of him.
I cannot tell how he is assing pitch shifter's and stuff.
Maybe the mixer was attatched with a Firewire or MIDI. MAYBE.

But the true question is

HOW DOES HE SAMPLE&RECORD IN REALTIME SO SMOOTHLY ???

AS far as I can go is that he may be using the LIVE4 software.
But I cannnot get as smooth as he does.
or generate the sounds so freakish as he does.

So please if anyone who admires him, or a friend of him,
or a person who just knows waht's going on,
please inform the lastest technology with us.

Thank you

That would probably be the Korg KaossPad II. The rest will need some more explaining or some pictures.

Machinate>> Thanks, but I'm sure it wasn't the KP2 cause I already own
one. but I think he may had it right in front of him where I can't see it.
I saw him moving his fingers and scraching the sounds that he generated.
Awsome! By the way, it was really huge big black box. and very tall.

Krikor >> Is that right ?? I haven't thought about that one. But probably that gives some great ideas. Thanks man. Do you think those homemade patch can be used with the LIVE4, or do you think he created the sampling software by himself with the max-MSP? If that is possible I might have to get one, too. Or is it just a sound effect software ???
Thanks Krikor!

I'm glad someone knew about him.
I admire him everyday.
He's great.
New vocalist of the century.

Thanks guys for helping out.
I'll keep informing.
Keep in touch.

Does he use Abelton or something else

Post by Soup Dragon » Thu Sep 23, 2004 8:57 pm

Hi - I stubbled accross this thread.

I heard Jammie Lidel on the radio a few months ago and was well impressed. I to have tried to emulate some of that live looping using Live - But am not sure if Live is capable of the precission that he creates.

Is there a possiblity that he has created something using Super colloder software - which is the name of another of his projects - Anyone with insite please reply

regards Richard

I don't think so (except by rewiring with the last Max version). Max is a complex software, a "Reaktor like" but more abstract. you can edit your own effects or synths, but it isn't easy at all.

Hi, Jamie Lidell is a friend of friends of mine (although I have sadly never met him), they share studio space with him when he is in Brighton.
Anyway, I was talking to them about Live and they said - "Hey, that's the thing that Jamie is always on about !"
Although, they could be wrong about him actually using it as they are generally not electronic music based. I always assumed he used MaxMSP myself.
I hope to chat to him when he is back in the UK, so I will pump for info.

Regarding the tall black Korg, I don't remember what he had on stage at the Warp/Sinfonietta thing (when I last saw him), but your description sounds like an MS20, I use two of these myself

I really wish Mr Liddel would get himself a website though, the Warp one is poor.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he uses an MS10 or a 20. I saw him at Mutek 2004 and will say that his performance was the most raw display of power-packed talent I've yet witnessed. I mean Jesus CHRIST!! Did anyone else here get to see that? Jamie is a God. And yes, according to the reports of people who attended the festival and got a good look at his set up he is running MaxMSP patches and doing a FINE job of keeping it fresh.

hey guys, I read a intervies of Jamie's in the Japanese Music Magazine. He was geneours enough that he described every gear that he used during the Squarepusher's toor in Japan. Does anyone like to know about it? I wrote it in the threads @ nofuture site. Check out the audiotech forum. I want to paste it here but I can't at the moment. Will do when I can. Cheers !
