Synced LFO's + de-tuned ocsilators...

Try Albino III out with its 4 osc's (Rusko and Benga both have vids on you tube covering this;

if a squarewave and one overdrive doesn't do it for you, then use a squarewave and two overdrives. or three. or four.

I produce dubstep, and I am telling you now ableton is perfectly capable of producing fountains of filth :) Here are some things I use to make filthy bass:

Operator, in FM mode (pick one, make a sound, then try them all to make sure you are not missing out :D)
Synced LFO in operator, highly automatable
Redux, 8bit reduction, 4x
Saturation (start at 'a bit warmer' preset and fiddle)
Tiny bit of phaser
Glide to taste

You can now have something filthy, but even better, you can automate. The two main things I automate are the LFO sync and the coarse freq's of the modulating oscillators in operator. I was toying with making a video on dubstep style bass in operator, if I do I'll post the link here.

I hope you do. Videos are the best way to show technical stuff.

Alright guys, I put this together earlier today, feel kinda sheepish coz i'm not exactly an ableton expert nor am I a dubstep producer extraordinaire, but hopefully someone can look past how much of a twat I sound in this vid and pick up some tips.

Intrument Rack (only tested on live 8)

If anyone has any tips or improvements for me, feel free to drop me a PM or reply below, I'm always open to new ideas on ableton as I am relatively new to it all.

Hey I gotta be honest with you... I didn't think I would see anything good from that video but that was a VERY good tutorial...

Not to mention a great technique :)

A+

Just to bump this, there is a video on youtube by Dubspot, on how to do dubstep bass using the simpler and a sine-wave sample. Good alternative and you can use anything in the simpler to get the bass sound.

Great tutorial, really informative....

Q: When using Albino 3 I very often use the triplet sync setting (1/4T for example) - Is this possible to replicate with Live?

I needs me triplets to groove!
