Syncing Music To Picture (Mainly for film composers)

Post by dazexus » Tue Nov 10, 2009 7:45 pm

Hey all,

I just finished up a short video tutorial on how to Sync music to picture using Ableton Live 7 (mac) and a free online tempo calculator.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOgxUevhwh0

The tempo calculator can be found here. (wish Live had a feature like it)

The footage I use is from a film I did the score to called Metal Gear Solid Philanthropy.

Hope you guys find it useful. Please let me know what you think.

awesome! thanks alot. I recently did the sound design and scored my friends short using Live. It was a blast.

I've been trying to figure out post film scoring type workflow with Live. Maybe you can help.

I've been trying to figure how I would do something similar to this guys setup using Live. I think it might be possible with M4L.

He is using Logic with Plogue Bidule
What do you think? do you ever do this type of composition/scoring.

Hey,

Well you see a template is a very personal thing based around your own work flow and system strength.

My template contains a few instances of Kontakt 3 that I leave empty ready for me to load as I need.

I have an instance for Strings, Brass, Winds, Percussion, Wind, FX each of these has 16 empty midi tracks pre routed to the multi timbrel instrument so when I load them in the Kontakt Instance they are ready to play.

This way I can add effects to each section, so on my strings track which holds the Kontakt 3 instance for strings I can put a reverb and some EQ which wont affect the other sections (Brass, Winds etc)

I hope that makes sense to you, I may make a video about it at some point...in the mean time a friend of mine has a similar video using logic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo9HjKRerNA

Keep in mind, composition is a personal thing and if you can find a way that really works for you (and it doesnt have to be the sameway everyone else works like me) and that you are more comfortable with then it will work for you. Try a few things out.
