the most epic beat repeat effect period.

Post by sburke1 » Tue Nov 24, 2009 4:18 pm

Hello, I am looking for this elusive effect which I can achieve in the simpler, but I want as an AU or VST. I can get this effect by looping a piece of audio, lets say a kick drum in simpler than automating the length. This creates a FLUID waxing and waning of speed.
bum bum bum bum bum bubum bumbumb bum bum bum bum

Eventually granular sounds.

How can I get this effect? This really gets the crowd riled up, Ive seen bassnectar do it. I can't get it from beat repeat device because it is stepped and not fluid enough. I like lucifer, and the bounce knob is almost what I want but hard to control. Thanks

Try to find a YouTube video where BassNectar does it, that'd help a lot.

My buddy loves that shit I might be able to ask him to describe the sound for me.

If I understand what you're asking for correctly, Copy Shop should do the job: http://www.shuriken.se/index.php?option ... &Itemid=39

Hey thanks. Copy shop isnt bad. It does what I am looking for however, maybe there's something better out there thought that is easier to use or sounds better sonically? Copyshop seems a little hard to tame. The idea would be to transition from a synced repeated (16th), then start doing the smooth waxing and waning of tempo. Copy Shop can do this but it it not ideal by the way it is set up. Thanks though.

Copy shop would be awesome - if it would sync properly...

Glitch.

Solo the "Stretcher" and play with the knobs :) At 100% amount you get no effect, as you drag it up your buffered bar stretches out more and more at divisions of the "Divisor" setting.. so 2 would not grain out much.. but at higher levels it gets super woomy. haha

Make sure that you change the Pattern Automation to the length you would desire (probably the whole thing set to one R).

Lovely thing is that you get the choice to do various other fx as well :D (TapeStop is fun!)

Replicant from the Audio Damage crew is also quite good, a bit of a play with length knob while on the Basic repeat setting might get what you're after.

I thought the point was no sync? For sync, I would just use beatrepeat.

I agree that copyshop is kinda hard to tame; you really need to put it in a rack and use macros to constrain the parameters.

Hope you find the sound you're looking for.

Simpler with loop mode switched on and some clever retriggering and a pitch bend.

There’s a video somewhere but I can’t find it. Think it had something to do with psytrance.

I know the OP states he wants a Vst to do this, but you can do this pretty easily within live...

- In an empty MIDI track, create an arpeggiator, followed by simpler, loaded with yr sample of choice.
- Create a MIDI clip with one extended note on C3 running for 2 bars.
- Hit play, change the Arp rate to 'free', and modulate the rate setting

Great fun if you load up a vocal sample, have the arp rate set low (~20-50ms), and then modulate the 'sample start' position on the simpler....

(Unless I'm misunderstanding the effect you're after....)
