oh how i wish midi prefs could be saved and called up
oh how i wish midi prefs could be saved and called up
i use different audio interfaces for stage and studio.
my stage midi prefs are much more complex than my studio midi prefs.
when i've been working in the studio and then go out to gig, i have to re-choose my stage interface and redo the midi prefs. the only way i can remember them is by using a screenshot as reference. this seems inane. anyone else have a solution?

Try setting up two 'template files', one for each.
IE for your basic studio file create 4 audio and 4 midi tracks, then map your mixer/whatever to that (faders for volume, buttons for your mutes etc) and save it. May be worth also loading any VSTs/effects/racks you use frequently into a couple of these and map them too. Once you've got it mapped out as you like it, save it as something blatant like 'STUDIO.ALS'
Then do the same for your Gig setup, (this time with your songs etc in there) and save it as 'LIVE.ALS' or similar.
This should minimize your setup time, which maximizes your rockin' time! (just remember to save any songs you write under 'save as' so you don't kill your template)
Also, in the preferences dialogue there is an option to 'save as default' which means Live will use whatever you currently have set up and mapped whenever you open it, which is another real time saver.

Re: oh how i wish midi prefs could be saved and called up
I think taximouse and I are talking about the settings on the Audio and MIDI tabs of Live's Preference pages, which aren't saved with Sets.
It can be a pain because sometimes a re-acquired MIDI controller will default to All Inputs and All Outputs enabled in MIDI prefs, which can, in a complex MIDI setup, lead to an unwanted MIDI feedback loop. I found this one out the hard way...

yup! that's the problem. can't save midi and audio prefs with a set. and i really, really wish i could.
i'll add it again to the feature request list.
