Slice To Midi Presets
Hey guys, Basically I've just recently started getting very into the slice to midi function. However there is something that is really annoying me. Whenever I slice a clip to midi the default velocity setting for every clip is 100% which is causing me to end up with over the top volume on every clip. Is there a way to change this so the default is 50% or something similar?
Re: Slice To Midi Presets
you can make your own slicing presets
Re: Slice To Midi Presets
I wanted to post a thread about the exact topic! Lucky i found this one
Sorry if it seems that i'm hijacking the thread, but i assume the OP would ask the same question - how do i create a slice preset?
Thanks in advance,
Tzvika.

Re: Slice To Midi Presets
put a preset in library/defaults/slicing
Re: Slice To Midi Presets
What do you mean? How do i create this preset? Say i want the sliced audio parts put in simpler and that the velocity sentisivity of each slice to be 0. How do i do that?
Re: Slice To Midi Presets
make a drum rack with a single simpler, with velocity 0
drag it to the folder library/deafults/slicing
give it a name
then when you slice, it will be available in the drop-down menu in the slicing window
manual p.217

Re: Slice To Midi Presets
Hi..You create your own slicing presets this way..Empty midi track..Drag an empty drum rack into it..Then drag an empty simpler..Assign the vel in simple to a macro knob..Drag the rack into the slice preset list in the library and name it..Now then you open the options for slice to midi it will show as a preset...But the basic slice preset has the simplers velocity set to 0 already...JON

Re: Slice To Midi Presets
Can I have the slicer presets in my own place in my documtents on Mac?
I am not comfortable with saving my own stuff in Live Library, I have everything in my own place

Re: Slice To Midi Presets
how will you ensure that the program can find the slicer presets that are not stored within its own folder structure. I am guessing its not possible to achieve this, I've never noticed an option for it in preferences... maybe something in options.txt

Re: Slice To Midi Presets
don't worry about it, I just did this to set my velocity settings for default drum racks, if you want to change your settings back, it's no problem. This procedure works.
Re: Slice To Midi Presets
Hi, I have had this problem as well, driving me mad. I did as suggested, the velocity stays at zero but there seems to be a default comressor loading on it when it slices, so it is still louder, how am I cocking this up?
Cheers,
Steve.

Re: Slice To Midi Presets
I just realised that is it the volume on each slice that seems to be the problem, it is at -12 db, it sounds like it should be at -15db, I saved a simpler into the default slice folder but it is reverting back to -12db when I slice to midi.
AAAAAHHHH!!!

Re: Slice To Midi Presets
This has driven me wild for ages, not just the effect, but more the fact that Ableton though "let's set a random amount for this to go to so whenever you slice to midi it is an arbitrary level out from what you had originally..."
-12db
50% Velocity
Seems to do the trick for me.
