Loop on the fly

Post by tonycmoi » Thu May 06, 2010 11:52 am

Hey folks ,

just another topic to ask if its possible or not, to loop a track on the fly like in Traktor or virtual DJ .. I know it was not possible 6 months ago, but now with max for live, it can be possible now.
I really miss this fonction on ableton.. :(

Thanks all!

If you want to loop a channel I set up a midi button on set to start then a seperate midi button on set to end. Finally a button to switch the loop off if that makes sense?

I asked the same question, got an excellent reply.

'in MIDI map mode you can map the loop start, end and on/off buttons, as well as the length to a knob'

Its simple and works great.
Have fun with it.

I wish they had dedicated midi editing of clips on a per-channel basis. It would make mixing much more functional. Also cue points in one track via midi. What? the Traktor killer?.. almost. hahah ..fitting it naturally into the interface though might be a different story :(

Question: I'm using a nanokontrol, and I'd like to map a knob to the loop length quantity. I'd like to make it so the knob sets the loop length from 1 to 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, and 36. Or even just to successive powers of two. How would I go about this, using the korg kontrol editor software or otherwise?

Thanks in advance.

You can get this done using beat repeat

It has been possible to loop a clip/track on the fly in a similar way to Traktor for several versions now. That is what the "Set" buttons are for next to the "Position" and "Length" Loop info. When the "loop" is inactive, used together they act like In/Out in Traktor. When you use only the Length "Set" button, it acts like a loop activation in Traktor, where in Ableton the length of the loop = Length.

The only difference is that Traktor activates the start of the loop at the current playhead position, whereas Ableton activates the end of the loop at the playhead position (or close to, depending on your quantize settings).

divide and multiply button on looper. I have looper on every channel with midi controllers to start/clear/divide/mult
I would still like to change the default loop length with a knob. as of now I don't think that loop length is assignable.

Ok so .. i still couldnt figure how to do what i wanna do ;(
The Omnilooper is really good , but i have some troubles using it sometimes.. it s a little buggy.

And the default loop control is quite hard to setup cause when i assign a knnb to loop length, it is not precise enough to make something.. i mean , it goes from 0.0.1 to 1.0.0 . you can't access to 0.1.0 or things like that.
So i continue dividing the loop with the arrows of my keyboard. :/
Anyone who knows how to divide loop length assigning midi control ?

Up !
After months trying to find the solution, i still can't figure out...
I'm using beatrepeat, but the loop length max is 1, and the music still plays behind.
The best way would be the default looping solution but.. it s impossible to control with my knob, cause of the precision of the loop length .. :( how can i change that ?
i'm using a nanokontrol..

thanks
