next scene / previous scene without the launch button ???

Post by juliensourya » Mon May 31, 2010 8:58 am

Hello,

I would like to use a basic controller during my live set, with one button to move to the next scene and one to move to the previous scene.
I know we can assign the button just below the scenes in the midi map menu, but you need to select the scene with the up/down shortcuts and then hit the launch. I would like to get rid of the lauch button, and have ableton to launch directly the next scene when i hit the next button (i mean i still want it to wait for the end of the bar of course).

Anyone have a solution ? Thanks a lot.

Regards,
Julien

There should be an option in Live's preferences that is called something like "Select Next Scene on Launch".

Sorry, I think I'm being a bit thick here. I have some scenes/songs and can (by editing the follow on actions for all the scene's clips) cause Live to step automatically to the next scene/song. All is good.

Sometimes however, I want to have the follow on action to stop the scene/song and have Live wait for me to hit a foot control *the same one every time - I don't want to have to look down (leading worship in a church)* to advance to the next scene/song and start playing.

Is this possible with what your are discussing? I can't see how it works if so.

Blessing and thanks in advance

You can build a patch in Max4Live to launch next/previous scene, and midi map this to a footswitch. I made a similar patch some time ago for same reasons. If you have M4L, I could upload it on Maxforlive.com if your interested.

Thanks Zangpa - I don't have M4L though I've just been looking at it and it looks very interesting. What footswitch are you using? I am over on the Behringer FCB1010 forum where someone has just said by using a thing called Bome, one can map PC key sequences to midi messages. He says that "ctrl/alt/down" does what I want (select and launch next scene )and that can be mapped to a switch on the FCB. (I haven't tried any of this!)

M4L is great for making things possible, that ableton hasn't already implemented. I'm pretty new to M4L myself, but I'm at the moment working on the connection between M4L and the functions in ableton. Just fixed a problem that has been bugging me for a long time: that it isn't possible to midi map the "fold/unfold group".
Anyway, i have the behringer footswitch myself. Haven't been using it that much though since it's too heavy... But it's a great footswitch! Mostly i've been using two simple footswitches together with the apc controller.
Couldn't get ctrl/alt/down to work myself, but i'm on a mac, so maybe it's different.
Good luck!

ClyphX is a pretty interesting option that does not require max for live.

It's really been a while here, but I was just searching for this and ended up here. The answer now is here: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... l-MIDI-bus

Open key/midi mapping, and up and down arrows appear for you to map to in the Master session/track.
