Remixing - Stretching tracks together....

Hi. Im not sure how most people go about this but id like to find out...

Im starting to get a lot of remix work and one thing i dont get about getting lots of split stems is how to change the tempo.

Say i get drums, bass, rhodes, gtr and samples i may want to do a remix but 20BPM faster than the original...

How do you stretch all the tracks up or down in tempo together?

Is it case of getting all the loops you want and turning warp on, then just changing the global tempo?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Take all your stems for one track and warp them at the original tempo. Then you can drop them in at any tempo you want and they will play in sync. That will be much easier than warping all the clips after you've changed the tempo by 20bpm

ok so say you know the tempo is 110BPM... what im asking is can i just put warp markers at the beginning and end of each stem then theyll stretch together in perfect sync as i move the tempo up and down..

im just thinking to save time...

Yea I see what you mean. You could try. I wouldn't trust Live to determine the start and end points of each clip accurately enough to do that with much confidence. It might be easier in the long run to warp them manually.

If you know the original tempo of the stems is 110bpm, open a new Live Set, ensure "Auto-Warp Long Samples" is off in preferences, and set the global tempo to 110bpm. Now drag in your stems (I usually do it to the Arrange page so I can see a visual overview). Turn on Warp for all of them in clip view - their original tempo in the clip view should read 110.

If a clip's tempo doesn't read 110bpm, manually enter a warp marker at the very end of the offending clip. This will allow you enter 110 manually into the clip's original tempo field.

Now you can alter the project tempo to whatever you desire.

(At this point I usually make a few appropriate changes to Warp mode for the different stems: Beats for beats, Tones for bass/instruments/vox - I usually leave individual decisions to use Complex or Complex Pro to later on)
