Less is More (and Layering is Dangerous) in the Club
After testing my newly mastered tracks in a few clubs the last few days, I learned some really important things about the dangers of layering sounds. Be careful, and always check your songs in the club before releasing them. You will be surprised at what you hear!

I would like to believe that with a proper mix and a professional mastering engineer's touch - this isn't an issue.
For me, layering sounds isn't so much for oomph as it is adding texture to sounds that alone sound a bit too surgical and clean. It's nice to have some fuzz and sheen all at the same time - adds to the depth of a mix imo.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing I had an empty nightclub at my disposal to check my mixes on
I guess it comes with experience though, knowing if your tracks will sound good in the club or not.

shouldnt be an issue while all channels well balanced and equalised properly.
but still i agree less is more.

white noise does contain harmonics. it contains every frequency, at equal amplitude, averaged over time.
little thing, i know. I'm a jerk

Just to be a bigger jerk, white noise doesn't contain harmonics. Harmonics are integer multiples of a fundamental frequency, or equivalently members of a Fourier series. White noise doesn't have a fundamental frequency, nor is there an integer factor between any of its components.Usedtobe wrote:white noise does contain harmonics. it contains every frequency, at equal amplitude, averaged over time.

I guess you could almost say it's a series of inharmonic overtones...

does anyone have a setting to emulate being at a club? that could be useful
