Whats that effect? Again.

Post by punching_sandwiches » Sun Sep 05, 2010 4:45 pm

Hey guys, I've been trying to work out how to do this weird intense doubling effect you hear on some tracks. The only instance I can think of to hand is at 3:18-3:29 in the song linked bellow:

I know there is an LPF on this sample and towards the end of the sample it starts to get panned around but there is this effect that I can only describe as an intense doubling effect as well.

Does anyone know how this is achieved?

Cheers

The only way I can think to do that is to reverse your sample, add some delay, bounce the result to a new file (with the delay) then reverse the bounced file back again. If you use a high feedback on your delay unit/plugin you'll have a nice long file you can cut to size when you bounce it back.

How to achieve it in real time as a performance? I have no idea!! :)

i think you nailed already bud. it's a looped sample of a piece of a phrase, with a lowpass filter opening up. maybe some chorus, and what sounds like someone whispering at the beginning. i think you could make these effects and much cooler ones if you start with all that and go nuts.
