scrub and start playback in session view?

Is it correct that in session view the only way to start playback in the middle of an unwarped clip is by using the start marker? There is no way to click on the lower half of the waveform, see the little speaker icon, and start playback from that position? This is possible in arrangement view, but not in session view? I have searched and learned that the scrub control can be midi mapped, but why not be able to scrub like in arrangement view? I have "permanent scrub area" on in preferences to no avail. Am I missing something? Would appreciate any insight, thanks.
