Trigger happy people (drum template)

Post by hoffman2k » Fri Jan 07, 2005 12:38 pm

Hello All,

I'm working on a template to make midiclips for the impulse (or anything else).
Here's the prototype.

You have 8 tracks with some midi clips playing one note, you can record them in the 9th track where the impulse is on. You can mute the 8 tracks with f1 to f8. instead of programming a drumloop you can play it.
As i said this is just a prototype. any suggestions or aditions are welcome.

If you have the faderfox module lx1 you'll enjoy this template, it works with channels 1 to 8.
It also works with a standard mdi keyboard, but you will have to change the midi messages to a costum setting.

Thats about it i think. the next version is going to have over 50 scenes, but it's gonna take a while :). Enjoy this one for now.

Cheers

B

Fun. I started using it as a kit builder - got some nice beats going.

YOu have any special teqniques - other than recording loops on the group and getting variations - that you do with this?

I mainly use it to make midiclips for surtain kits. as you might have noticed some loops sound better with differen kits.
You can also use it for larger kits as in battery. just add more tracks and copy the midifiles. then use the midi pitch effect to sellect a drum sound

map buttons or knobs to pitch, velocity, random,.....

I'll up version 2 tonight. already got over 40 scenes i think.
the main goal is to have loads of these clips to start making more drumloops with more feel to it. the more i can use knobs and buttons to change the beat, the more fun i have.
And it al sounds less loopy.

This also works for making melody's. thats where the scale plugin comes in handy.

Here's another tip:

If you have a nice beat going with several clips. Use the capture and insert scene command. this creates a new scene with the various clips ready to be quantized thogether.

this template is getting more fun by the minute :)

Slap an instrument on channel 9 and maybe a scale
add pitch plugins on the first 8 channels. mess around with the parameters and discover alot of melody's.

in case you havent downladed these yet, here they are again

add these to your user presets. usefull for making melody's or variations in the drumpattern.

cheers

If you assign a cc controller to the Scale plug-in's Base parameter I guess you can push buttons to change chords!!! (each button sending a certain valu 0-127 for the cc assigned). Looking around here now for any suitable controller. Hey man, this is fun!!!

You could also use multiple scale plugins with different scale's and switch them on and off.

the same goes for the pitch plugin, but thats already built in the scale if your using those.

and dont forget the velocity plugin :).

Beautiful!
This should be distributed with the coming releases of Live.

I "created" the best thing ever by using scen 13, adding a midi track receiving all the others, playing a piano in the Paax sampler with some velocity randomize and scale to "hungarian gypsy".

Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

Here's the version with two impulse's. You can make midi clips on the first impulse that controls the second. That means 15 sounds triggerable from one track. in this case track 18.

Why 15 sounds? actually there are 16, but the first sound of the second impulse is triggered by the same note that triggers the last sound of the first impulse.

I was messing around with a similar idea using Battery - had a lot of fun
Check out

Using stylus rmx at the moment - some fun to be had there too, especially when you assign all the chaos controls to midi controllers as shown in the video clip.

cool, i remember reading that post. But i forgot about it.
anyway, i'm trying to build a template that will allow me really play the variations in the patterns.
With 16ch midi keyboards these days, everybody probably has enough buttons to enjoy this template.

If any people are intrested to help making this a huge template, PM me.
I got loads of drumfiles to take appart. It will be something we all can enjoy. especially to knock out some melody's out of the operator

cheers
