Help- How to maintain a stab sound

Post by Ill Frequencies » Tue Nov 30, 2010 12:28 pm

I have a stab sound from a sample pack I would like to use but I want the full stab sound to maintain for a few seconds instead of the split that it lasts for.
Is there any certain instrument or effect I can use to achieve this sound?

Thanks, Ash

If you are on a PC go and google up "paulstretch". It can stretch a second into an hour, or more.
Of course Live has various stretches you could try, but paulstretch has windowing options to refine a freaky FX stretch like this.

^^ Tried it out last night on amen break, portrait of tracy and a flute sample. Some incredible results with some deft window-tweaking...

It renders damn quick too!

can see myself using this more and more...

Are you able to find any other sounds with similar traits? You can blend the two together, one attack stab and one tail.

I will have check out "paulstretch" but is there a way to do it in Ableton.
Basically I just want to draw in the note of the sample after I have loaded it into an instrument then however long I make the note is how long it goes for.
Is there a way?

couldn't you just modify your sustain settings?

Thanks for suggesting paulstretch... it is an fantastic little program that creates some amazing sounds for texture, pads, etc. So simple, yet so effective 8)
