how to make a Skrillex TYPE of Bass .

Post by EmcFraktal » Thu Jan 13, 2011 3:15 pm

hello all in forum,
i know this subject is hated alot but i dont want to fight with anyone BUT!! i did a lil research and i found u can make a skrillex type of bass without going mad crazy with tracks returns and such. my video is on the youtube and i hope it helps you guys who wanna try this sound Without sounding like skrillex or any jerk who bought massive (which i hate btw) . but anyways (positive VIBES!!)
i did this with nothing but operator and an eq 8 with a vocoder set 2 modulator and thats it....i think..the video is better IF ur into that sorta sound. I made a zip with 3 synth racks innit. 2 skrillex type racks and my deep yoy which will be available when emcfraktal.com is finished being re-tooled.
thanx

heres the video link:

PS mics with a lil overdrive and vocoder do just as well.

If I can hear it on my laptop speakers, its not bass.

Just sayin'.

Inaccurate again. If you can hear it on your laptop speakers, then it's unlikely that it's pure sub bass. There's plenty of decent bass sounds you'll still be able to hear on even the most shoddy laptop speakers. Granted you probably won't get the bottom end, but you can still hear it.

I'm guessing your handle's ironic "truth"!!!

is hating on Massive the new black or something? you're still making a brostep bass, why does the tool used matter?

correct ollyb303 NOT all bass is inaudible , and in my rack i have a stacked sub only for just such a need . if u need sub bass.

and as far as massive i hate them only because i bought this vst twice and both times it was a problem and NI had very bad customer support. so now they can bite it! .BUT!!! thats MY principal i have many friends who use it successfully but i wont give them anymore of my money.

and ur correct antarktika the tools dont matter,
How you use the knowledge is truly what matters. so hopefully it helped someone. at least that was my intention.
also the main advantage to using massive is that they have wavetable modulation. in live we have wavetable mapping but no modulation via automation. but if operator had that it would sound even better i believe. operator is a powerful FM synth. anyways thanx 4 the comments, peace 2 all!

Nice tutorial. I'm not into the whole Skrillex ear-bleed hype, but I learned a few neat things from this. I'm definitely checking out your other tutorials. Thanks.

I wouldn't say one of Skrillex's knacks is "complexity"
Super distorted dub-bass isn't a new thing, not to me at least.
.... and I am also curious whats with the constant hating on Massive?
Its so widely used because its applications and flexibility are endless
Is it just me or is it the more complicated the synth, the more people try to shrug it off as uncool or something?

People want to click one button and have instant music. Thats not how it works. I get it all the time, people think electronic music is lazy when really it takes more detail then any thing! Especially dub step. people think it is just one thing. when really that wobble is several different components.

I have never tried massive (yet) but I am going to check it out!
I want to get operator so I can use those downloads from your channel
