Idea: streaming a show online
Idea: streaming a show online
I know its possible and probably pretty easy to stream audio over the internet but I thought would be really cool to have shows over the internet. Like a live concert that anyone could listen to. An even better idea would be a radio station like this that would constantly be peoples live shows. Maybe there is already something like this but I haven't sen it yet. Anyway, I think if it worked, it would be a really cool idea, all you'de have to do to get an audience would be just posting something on the forums here and giving out a link and time to tune in.
So, how would I go about doing this?

People steam audio live over Shoutcast all the time. http://www.shoutcast.com
If you mean video, Open Labs uses a service called Ustream to do live shows.

Og course I'm guessing yuo don't care if the stuff is being streamed LIVE at the moment, you just want to play recordings of live stuff.

Yeah, I thought it would be cool to do an actual live show, like only audio but live, not just playing music but making it at the same time.

Check out Icecast (http://www.icecast.org/) or Shoutcast server (http://www.shoutcast.com/download), they can stream your audio output in real time as mp3, like all the internet radio stations do.
Make it.

Re: Idea: streaming a show online
A bunch of us DJ live on ghettoradio.us. My slot is on Wednesday at 6pm central. It's pretty fun.
My band also frequently broadcasts our shows over ustream.tv. If the venue has internet, I just set my computer up on a table and start the broadcast using a USB mic and camera. Takes about 5 minutes to set up. Then all the lazy asses who don't come out to see us can still watch our show from their couch.
Ustream.tv has a simple Flash-based interface. To broadcast audio to Shoutcast servers, I use Nicecast: ($40, http://www.rogueamoeba.com/nicecast/). It's not free, but it's the only solution I found that suits my needs on OSX. Good software, and Rogue Amoeba have great support.

You could also simply use Quicktime Broadcaster...
