question about cutting audio clips

Post by Sebastian » Thu Mar 03, 2011 9:23 pm

Hi!

Is it possible to cut/splice audio clips in the clip view?

When I hover over clip in clip view, I just get the magnifying glass and the right clicks does not provide SPLIT option.

I find splitting the clip in the Arrange view is a bit too much hard work.

Thanks

Splitting in the Arrange View is the easiest way available for splitting.

In order to split in Session View you need to set start/end times for the clip (or drag the flag for start/end), and duplicate the clip. Then on the new duplicate, set new start/end times.

What is the part about splitting them in Arrange view that is most challenging?

If you really want to avoid using arrangement you can duplicate the clip then select the section you wanna keep then right click and crop... no split in session

what I dont enjoy about splitting in arrangement view is:

-As I zoom further in, the arrangement window/tracks starts moving sideways, so I have to keep also keep adjusting that as well. I wish that where I could "point and zoom" without the tracks shifting.

So its not really the splitting that is a nuisance but the zooming in. I should have clarified that earlier.

And no, I never do splits in Session so at this point I dont care about Session splits.

Any suggests? :)

Two ideas: If you double click the area between the overview and the arrangement your view will horizontally snap to the selection. (If no selection is made double clicking the same area zooms out to show the whole arrangement)
If you make a shortcut for "follow" in your default arrangement you can hit that to stop the screen moving.

I've been wondering the same thing. Is there really still no possibility to slice a audioclip inside the clip view? And I am talking about slicing, not start and end slicing. Sometimes I need to slice to remove noise, but will need everything else, and to spilce them afterwards (which is no prob).

Use the Volume envelope to remove noise!

I know this question is a bit old, but I wanted to point out that zooming/panning in Live is probably the best I've ever seen in any software.

I'm talking about the click-and-drag on the measure bar, where the pointer becomes a zoom lens. If you just drag straight down/up, it zooms in/out over the exact point you clicked; otherwise you can infinitely drag left/right to scroll while you're zooming.

Very neat.
