random and scale together

Ok, so i have a drum rack...on one of the pads i have an instrument rack with 4 instances of simpler playing different samples. In the key zone editor for the instrument rack, i made it so each sample has it's own note(C3,C#3,D3,D#3). I then added random and scale, with scale adjusted so it only plays those 4 notes. When i have random set to alt it works fine. no missed notes. when i switch to random it works almost perfect...every note hits randomly like it's supposed to except the when it randomly selects the first note in my scale sequence no matter what i have it set to. it plays the octave up. Any suggestions?
