Post by RoCi » Tue Apr 26, 2011 7:57 pm

so im selling my imac and moving to mac pro and i bought an external HD. should i use time machine to back up up everything on the external HD and then when i get my mac pro connect the external HD to it and use time machine again to back everything up?

what would be the safest way? i dont wanna lose anything i have on my imac especially my AbletonLiveSession files.

I reinstall my OS every 4 months or so. If all your sets are in self contained folders, then you shouldn't have a problem. I would recommend just manually backing everything up rather than just hoping for the best.

Best bet is to use time machine. You can back up your entire mac setup on the external, boot the new computer into time machine with the external hooked up and it will retain every setting and app you had from the previous mac.
