APC 40 vs Sunlight!!!
APC 40 vs Sunlight!!!
Hey there!
I played at an open air festival lately, wich was really cool, but it was like 6PM,
and tha stage was in full evening-sun.
I use APC 40, 20 and Launchpads, and it was a complete blind flight!
The color LED's on both apc's and launchpads weren't readable any more,
i couldn't recognize which colors they where, i actually most of the time
couldn't even see, wheather or not they're on at all. Sun was just too bright.
So, did that happen to anyone except me? (guess so..
and does anyone out there have a solution for this kind of Problem? (hope so!)
maybe some kind of mod, to make them led's brighter?
Thanks for any thaughts on this one!
Cheers!

I think it'd be better to just provide some shadow, like use a square piece of cardboard clipped to something like a mic stand so you can move it around depending where the light is coming from.
Well, instead of cardboard use something stiffer, and you might as well make an artpiece out of it, so go crazy!

we tried a few festival banner-things, but even with shadow, it still was too bright

i dunno, if its 100 degrees out which is brighter in infrared: LEDs or everything else?shadx312 wrote:Infrared goggles.
the APC 40 was created by vampires for vampires.
stick it in a cardboard coffin with the lid cracked open.

Re: APC 40 vs Sunlight!!!
Yeah I thought about that for a sec but didn't really care enough to find an alternative.
A giant sombrero? Like, exaggeratedly HUGE, maybe like aq 5 foot radius.
You would look really cool bobbing your head up and down with that thing on.
So you might as well buy a giant moustache to go along with it.
If I saw a performer like that I would have no doubt that he could kick Deadmau5's ass plus make some great empenadas.
Or, like one of these but 5 times bigger
IIRC Montgomery Burns made a device that would suit your needs but I don't think it panned out well, something about the ecological system...

Re: APC 40 vs Sunlight!!!
...now seriously! i played another open air festival,
and again, those stupid APC40 LED's are just not bright enough!
no way of telling of they're on, forget about guessing what colour
they might be...
We need a mod for this! maybe remove some resistors, or add voltage to the LED's
powersupply, or something!
someone out there do something! hehe

Just enjoyed watching Slow Chicks. The Korg R3 sounds great!
It led me to the bonzzaj site looking for the release and saw the line up for the Bord de L’eau weekend.
What a killer line up!

For the LP you can get a mod script for it. I use it because i'm colourblind and can't tell the difference from clips that are playing and ones that are not. You can easily change the LEDs intensity from low, med and high and the colour and if it flashes or not. It's possible to make playing and cued clips flash for easier daytime viewing.
Not sure about the APC though

@shadx312 : that was a sick line-up, indeed! great little festival
Maybe the lack of brightness of the led's on my APC has something to do with the fact, that
i built an apc 60 out of an APc 40 & APc 20, with using just one AC Adapter...

Record so shows and play the audio. I actually have a set just in case i cannot see. I just play my live instruments and tweak what I can using brail
Re: APC 40 vs Sunlight!!!
Im considering placing an iPad on top of the APC triggers, and use the Cliip App. This should work in sunlight.
Re: APC 40 vs Sunlight!!!
yay! good idea!
Re: APC 40 vs Sunlight!!!
Yea this is a tough issue! I played a surf contest and couldn't see anything! Thankfully Ableton lets you change the color of the screen and I picked the Frost preset. That allowed me to see my laptop, but the APC40 and Launchpad? Nothing!
We need a nice fix. Maybe Tim the toolman Taylor can put some super spot light LEDs in them for us!
