MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
Hi,
I mapped the value 'Loop end' to a poti.
when I twist the knob, the loop end skips in big steps,
what I want is that it moves smooth and in small steps,
how can I do this?

Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
I don't think you can set the granularity for this.
Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
I tried to set the step value on my controller from 1 to 0.1 - didn't work
I don't understand the values lin. Sign etc. messed around with it, but no success either
what I'm after is the effect to play a loop, then make it kind of stutter (like the first kick) then make it stutter faster (just playing the first 1/64 of the first kick...
???

Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
use beat repeater???
Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
Beat Repeater doesn't affect the sound as I want to...
just want to move the loop end smoothly along the beat grid, e.g. moving in 1/16 beat steps and not (as it does now) 1/2.

Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
But.....
Say you have 4 kicks per beat and you want to stutter the end of each kick you can beat repeat every 1/4 and use the offset and gate to get the effect you want.
You need to offset a bit more than the length of the kick and it's only offsetable by 1/16ths.
But it might be quite close.

Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
yip, it's getting pretty close, thanks,
but still I want to be able to stutter not only 1/16th note, but beyond until e.g. a straight bd turns into a midget-esque buzzing sound... As far as I know, traktor or serato offer this effect as default, adjusting loop sizes down to near zero mapped on a poti.
I know this must be possible somehow, but as I only do live performances, I need the most simple solution possible to keep it seamless and easy.
but thanks for the tip

Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
I guess, you can do that through the Simpler or Sampler supposing you have your kick on a drum rack or an Impulse. For example, if your kick is on a drum rack inside a Sampler, you can go to the Sample tab, activate Loop(two arrows pointing to the right), then go to Modulation tab, activate the Aux envelope and set Destination A to Loop Length and the Aux Env Amount A to 100% or so, then set up the envelope to do your glitch.
With Simpler, its even...simpler since all you do is activate Loop and automate the Sample Length!

Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
You can select the loop in the clip view and then ctrl down arrow to reduce the loop lenght down to 1/32.
It's not assignable to a midi controller afaik:-(
And it only goes down to 1/32:-(
And it often loses sync when you come out of loop mode:-(
It's not as good as Traktor for this effect.

Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
I've noticed that changing the loop length is affected by the global quantization. (not the clip quantization). If you change global to none, you will be able to move in smaller increments with your mapped knob. unfortunately it only goes as low as 32notes, i cant figure out how to have completely free movement. If your after 16th notes, then set the global to 16ths.
Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
wow, true worked for me, only with global quant. set to 1/16, you gotta be damn quick in launching clips live...
But thanks a lot, this took me close to where I wan to go.
Sorry for bothering you all with this detail, but it annoys me that such a common effect is not possible in ableton.

you can also map the global quantization button to a knob so you can change to 1 bar to launch the clip and then change back to 16ths.
Re: MIDI: loop end, how to adjust the step size
If you set the launch quantization for all your clips explicitly (not to global but to a value like 1 bar) then launching will be independent of the global quant. setting.h0ch.grat wrote:wow, true worked for me, only with global quant. set to 1/16, you gotta be damn quick in launching clips live...
