live 4 MIDI piano roll window question
live 4 MIDI piano roll window question
as in the title i have a qirky question in the piano roll view. I use Linnplugs RMIV for my drums, so here is the question. How do i change the view in the piano roll from the keys (on the left) to the names of the samples associated with each key? I managed to do this once on accedent and I'm not having any luck reproducing it... This info would be much appreciated.
P.S. the native impulse sampler has this action when folded.

I've only ever seen this work with Impulse, RMIV doesn't do it for me.

the option you want is FOLD but it only works with impulse...
FOLD shows you only the notes played in the clip
so you could just go find whatever notes you want rm4 to trigger, tick all those, then hit fold, and youd have just those specific notes
but live is going to call them by their note value, not the sample names
i wish it was different also
really want microtonic to behave like impulse in that respect

WTF ?i have impulse in one midi track then battery in another, i send the midi to battery and edit in the impulse track, to get names for the tracks i just insert samples in impulse then mute them as it wont mute the midi notes.
how do you manage to get midi out of an impulse ??? i can't... or i've missed something

Damn, that does sound like a neat trick. But now I have the notes memorized....
But will definitely try this when I get home.
But, then again, aren't you only limited to the 8 slots that are Impulse?
And what about slightly increased CPU useage?
I guess you can't have everything.

nah you dont need to memorize the notes as you can see both the piano roll and the battery or whatever drum vst you are using at the same time as they are in different midi tracks, thats another good thing about it i hated having to switch from impulse then back to piano view to edit my drums, this way i can edit with everything in front of me.you get more than 8 slots if you unfold the track and its not as bad to edit if you have both views up at the same time..
mexique1.. its easy to set up, you need two midi tracks , in the first track have your impulse then in the second track drop battery or whatever you are using, now on your second track select the "midi from" then select midi 1. now drop your samples into impulse and mute them, now open the drum vst in the other midi track and then click in the midi 1 track to create a new clip dont close the open drum vst in track 2 just move it to the side. now you can see both the Vst and the piano roll at the same time, press play on the clip and ur drum vst will light pads up ...
i can upload a live file if you cant work it out, tell me which vst you are using for drums and i will use that one...

iskandar > shame on me, when i drag an impulse to a midi track, midi to become audioto, so i didn't look further in the midi froms of other midi tracks ... this is a great tip !
and if i send the midi to of the midi track 2 to my hardware instead of a VST, i can sequence my hardware via impulse ? this was what i was looking for
thanx again
