How to automate locator commands???

Post by JonnyNM22 » Fri May 31, 2013 5:44 pm

Is there a way to put a region in the arrange view that would send a command once the playhead passed by it and that command would tell ableton to jump to a locator somewhere else in the session?

In other words, can I put a region that will send a letter or number command to ableton letting it know to jump to a different song on the next downbeat?

did it in a few seconds. you will need a virtual midi cable to route out then back in.
i used the free midi yoke on my windows xp laptop. you may have to look around for a different virtual midi solution for your set up.

i did this also without a midi controller by using the computer keyboard as midi option in live.

enable the computer keyboard then create a midi track

set the i/o on the track to:
in: computer in
out: midi yoke 1

create a midi clip with a note, for example whatever the letter 'a' is on the computer keyboard

create your locator

go into midi map mode and map the locator to the same note ('a' as previous example)

(once mapped, you can set the track input to 'no input')

thats it.
now that clip will trigger your locator, even from session view!

Cool - minigoat's idea works. A neat way to jump to & compare different versions and sections of an arrangement. Cubase can do this instantly, as it allows you to create "backwards" loop braces, so soon as it hits the first (negative) brace, it will jump forward in time to the last brace, skipping the actual loop content. But this works too - just slower to set-up.
