Running and Automating a Live show with Live...

I am the drummer/programmer for an Industrial Metal band. We run a laptop live that handles all our keyboard/electronic backing tracks. I was wondering If Live would be capable of running alongside Reason 3.0 (which handles our backing tracks) and triggering the patch changes on two Boss GT-6 Guitar processors and my set of Roland V-Drums..

Why not? Live can't send program changes to external hardware? (just curious)

It sends Program changes to my access virus and ES1 just fine. Each midi clip has a bank, sub bank and program field under the Bpm field. Live doesn't do sys ex thou (yet!)

yep you can do program changes. I also have that set up for my access virus. I have to add one to the number to get the right patch... eg for patch A 56, I enter bank (1) program (57)

Slightly OT: How do VST synths usually react to program change messages? Would be very nifty to be able to change patches...

...some vst do rehact to PC and some do not. It depends on the vst. Some also do some noise when changing patches. So test if, and if it does not work then use 2 instances.
