Midi note to launch next scene

Post by kenny117 » Fri Nov 22, 2013 4:45 am

I'm using Ableton to run backing tracks live for my band. I'm told I can assign a midi note (in a midi scene) to trigger the next track but I can't figure out how. I can find tons of info on how to map to an external controller but nothing to map a midi note to controls in Ableton. Is this really possible? I want a fully automated show. I don't want to manually start every song.

I don't know how to do it with a single note but I found this and it works with a two note mapping.
It seems a little more complicated than it should be but it basically opens up (once set up) a very flexible way to automate various things.

You just make a blank clip as long as needed, how every many measures that song part is, verse, chorus, etc. and you can do fraction of a second specific automation.

Practice tip: after playing with this a little with the group, I realized it is helpful to have the notes trigger at the beginning of the last measure of the part, that way I have time to override it manually if we have got to jamming.
