Quickly turning a sound on and off...LFO maybe?
I was just messing around last night when I thought it would be neat to hear how a simple long synth note would sound when turned on and off repeatedly (Muted, unmuted?). Tried using an envelope for volume and that really didn't do what I was looking for, as it couldn't get the speed I wanted plus it was tedious to edit it that way.
My idea from there would be to use an LFO to get what I wanted, which could sound kind of neat when adjusting the speed, but I don't know how to add one to Ableton. There's not just a "LFO" plugin is there? I did think I heard something about M4L offering this.
Also, if there is an easier way for me to get the effect I want, I'm all ears. Thank you!

Use the autopan plug in, you can set the phase to 0 and use it to create a gating effect. I think it even has a preset for this.

One thing I often use for this is Autopan .
Playing with it, you'll soon discover how to abuse it to your taste. Also, try the various Autopan presets.

Also, the gate in Live has a sidechain key input nowadays, if you want to control the opening and closing of the gating pattern

If you follow the link and download the "stormgate 1" vst, you can use that to draw in rhythmic volume automation patterns (and switch between them) it's a pretty basic thing, but it's one way to get what you're asking for!
