slaving MPC via Focusrite Saffire?

i would like to slave Live to my MPC 500, running the MIDI out of the MPC into the MIDI in on my Focusrite Saffire Pro 14.


the problem is that I can't work out how to get the Saffire to appear in the MIDI preferences in Live (and therefore, I can't tell Live to listen to it for incoming MIDI messages).


i've looked around the www to see if there's a tutorial or advice. but the only advice i've found is regarding sending/receiving audio, and that's working fine.


how do i set up a non-native control surface if it's not appearing in the MIDI Ports?

i had to 'rescan devices' in the 'Audio MIDI Setup' program (i'm on a Mac).
