Creating bassline out of a single kick looping really fast??

Post by marra » Mon Jun 08, 2015 5:45 pm

Regarding the balloon sounding bassline in Röyksopp - Vision One:

How'd I go about recreating it in Live? At 1:45 the bassline slows down revealing that it might be made out of individual kicks going really fast.. could there be some truth to that? If so how is it achieved?

Thanks!

I think the core of this is a sawtooth through a hipass with high resonance driving the bottom end, and a lowpass, then very overdriven and shaped through something distorty with built-in flavour, then it seems like it's going into a parallel filter setup somewhat like a formant filter, but it could easily be an allpass (like a phaser) manually controlled.

I tried that and it sounded close, considering I took longer about typing this than I did the test.

Fantastic work man !! Sounds very close. So much more simpler than the YouTube tuts.

Thanks for sharing..

Do let us know if you manage to take it any further..

While we're at it, do you know of any other ways Analog can be used to create those physically sounding sounds? Like that bassline kinda sounds like two pieces of wood rubbing against each other under high pressure..

How about running that sound through a vocoder set to modulating itself and 40 bands. Just to make it more "plastic", in search for a better word.

On side note: Although I kinda fumbled the actual playing of this bassline, it seemed really familiar to me, because I've been playing something similar recently. Then I remembered where I stole it from.

if anyone wants the file it is here

although you will very probably need L9.2 to open it. I made it using the beta.
