recording electrical signals from plants

I recently stumbled upon Michael Prime's music, where he use electrical signals from hallucinogenic plants to generate music.
I got curious, so I wanted to ask if anyone knows what kind of (cheap) gear you could use for that. Must be some kind of electrodes.

I don't know how you would use it for sound though. From what I understand, the electrical changes & impulses that are involved are very slow. Like 0.5 Hz.
