Automating the on/off of tracks but also be able to record

Post by alexfsu » Wed Nov 04, 2015 1:32 am

I have one drum rack that I need to turn off and another to turn on at the same time. I tried automating channel on/off of each, all good, but when I try to record MIDI that I play in from my MIDI device (Nanokontrol2), I can only do Session record, and then the automation I made becomes inactive. Sort of a sticky situation, but I figured maybe some might have a tip or trick. Thanks, have a good day!

If you already have automation drawn (or recorded) in the arrangement then you should still be able to record MIDI by using MIDI overdub. On Live 9 this means hitting the session record button (the round circle, to the left of the New Recording button) and then simply hit global record (after arming your MIDI track of course). The automation will retain but you'll be able to record (new) MIDI clips right into the arrangement.

Hope this can help.
i think i got it thanks
