Route individual drum rack cells to different tracks ?
I need to route individual cells to 12 different hardware outputs.
Before wasting the rest of the day, can somebody confirm that, stupidly, the only way to do this is to create one track per cell and chose the cell as input for each track ? (That would make me like 300 tracks i think).

After the Drum Rack, add an Audio Effects Rack with a sidechainable device (i used Gate in the example pic) in 'monitor' mode, followed by an External Audio Effect device to route the audio to your hardware outputs – one chain per DR cell.
It will still take a while to route all the ins & outs etc but at least you'll only 1x DR track rather than lots of audio tracks.

Clever. At least more clever than Ableton !
I've already started the ugly job. 184 tracks for now.

yeah, ableton should be expected to think up every possible usage case scenario and be 100% accommodating for it, no matter how rare or bizarre or seemingly useless that usage case ischapelier fou wrote:Clever. At least more clever than Ableton !

Not clever at all - seems i had a brainfart earlier! Much easier to just add an External Audio Effect device to each DR cellchapelier fou wrote:Clever. At least more clever than Ableton !

*doh*

I do sometimes read some posts on here and think “So you’ve mastered effortlessly composing great tracks and now need to find new and overly elaborate ways to frustrate yourself?” But I know people get inspired in different ways and by different methods.

Thanks anyway.
One other thing driving me crazy :
You set up a (large) drum rack. You rearrange the cells. Now you do the routing thing (create one track per cell). When you chose the input source in the track, unrolling the big menu list, the list order is not the current one, but the 'original' one, or a more or less randomized one (i couldn't tell and now it's too late, i rearranged all of them). That drove me nuts. NUTS.

Honestly, routing individual cells to different outs seems far from sophisticated. Create a drum rack, then route the Kick and snares to different outs for being mixed. Does that sound "bizarre and seemingly useless" ?mholloway wrote:yeah, ableton should be expected to think up every possible usage case scenario and be 100% accommodating for it, no matter how rare or bizarre or seemingly useless that usage case ischapelier fou wrote:Clever. select all drumcells you want to send to a specific out in the chain list and group them (ctrl+g).
put an external audio effect after the group an send them to their individual out.
