Using endless encoder as absolute knob

Post by 2pauluzz2 » Sun Nov 06, 2016 9:14 pm

Just wondering if anyone here has ever found themselves in a situation where they wanted to map an endless encoder for use as an absolute knob?

I have an xone k2 and want to map one of the endless encoders to control e.g. a send in Ableton. The endless encoder only sends on/off type message, while I'm hoping there is a way to have it behave like a 0-127 knob.

You might be mapping it with the wrong type of control method.
Bottom left part of the screen in Live gives you a dropdown box for control types. One of them should allow your encoder to have smooth control.

Thanks guys! Yur2die4 nailed it. "Relative (BinOffset)" seems to be the best mode to assign an endless encoder to a knob with the purpose of 'sweeping' it hands on, as you would with eg a hp/lp filter.

I've been using Ableton since version 5 and this is totally new to me. Always be a student :)
