Multiple loops arrangement view

Post by bassemnab » Wed Nov 09, 2016 10:45 am

Hi, I am complete beginner, I am trying to create 2 different loops on the same track at different locations in arrangement view . Is this possible? Or we can do only 1 loop in a song?
Every time I try to place the second loop I lose the first loop I placed. Please help.me if you know the answer!

Only one loop per song I'm afraid.

Just use one audio or midi track for each loop during editing, then resample the result to a new track for a one-file loop. You also can group more tracks and let the single tracks open for later changes. The audio tracks have fades as an option for the arrangement, just check this out too. The Live manual is very good in explaining the basics, i really recommend to read it, there are a lot of cool and easy to use functions to explore.

I hope this helps a bit.

Thank you for the replies and hints. I play live in a band, I have multiple songs each one has a loop in it. I need to play them back to back without stopping and keep the loop in each song. Anybody has an idea how and if this can be done in Ableton? I really appreciate any help from you.

The answer is above...

Otherwise refer to the previous answers, you can't have multiple loops in Arrange view... So you'd have to use session view instead...

One way this can be done, in arrangement view, is to use a midi clip to trigger a locator. So you can put multiple locators in the project, at the beginning of sections you might want to repeat. Then, in the last bar of that section, put a midi note that you can set to trigger that locator. You have to use the IAC driver on your computer to do this. I figured this out by watching this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1a-Zu7Vlt4).

This shows how to create a stop track. It's the same idea, just use a different note and have it trigger the locator. You would need to use a different note for each location you want to loop. Then when you want to stop looping, have some different trigger (foot pedal, computer key, etc), to turn that channel off. Then it will move on.
