Prevent Live to cut notes and sound when hitting Stop ?

Is there a way to do this ?

Stopping the transport is actually the best way to move from a "timed" part to a "free" part, giving the advantage to trigger the next "timed" part with everything in in sync with the transport.

No one would care ?
Could be in the preferences. Or hit stop two times as a MIDI "Panic".

Hi

I have tried to replicate the problem but could not on windows.

As you stop playback, no sound gets cut - if that is what you meant.

OT, there was a Roland MC808 failure drumbox which would cut everything even upon scene change :D

Put an operator on one track. Any sound, long envelope release. Hit play. Play a note. Hit stop : it cuts the note.

For some reason, "Analog" instrument is not cut. Operator and Simpler are.

Maybe send to reverb if you want a decay? Is that what you're after?

Yeah, well that would be better than nothing, bu in my case it won't be possible, since i hit stop with my foot on a MIDI pedal board while playing with both hands.

There's a few ways you could do this. Really depends on your work flow. I would say don't use stop. Instead stop the clips that are playing, you could do them all at once with scene select. Then set your quantization to 1 bar or however long you'd want them to continue. Then you could also have a dummy clip that fads the volume, or turns up the release on a synth or something like that, while the clip plays the last time.

Tell me a bit more about how your using live. I've ran into this issue before and have found a few solutions.

Case of use is described above, and i honestly think it cannot be replaced by anything else :

I play with ableton + acoustic instruments. No free hands, so everything done with the feet.
I trigger the next scene (or preset combination of clips with my M4L performance device) and stop transport with 2 MIDI buttons on the floor.
Transport is playing. Then next part is free, in terms of length and tempo, and only acoustic instruments are played. Then the next part is using clips and i must have beat 1.1.1 on launch, because i'm livelooping a lot of stuff using the global quantization.
So for the free part, i hit stop. Then i hit NEXT to run the next part involving the transport.

Anyway, i should have written that Ableton answered to me and confirmed the bug.

I had a similar issue:

Improv/jamming kinda thing on ableton, over a vocalist, with some set silences on particular words, so I need a hands on, instant stop, but hated the dead muted silence and unfinished drum sounds.

Solution:

Open up the crossfade, put your stuff on A.
Reverb on a return channel (or several on several return channels if you want each tailored to different tracks).
Return channel on B.
Assign your "stop" button to the x-fade.

Downside being you lose your crossfader for anything else

I have the exact same situation happening in Live 10 Suite as a keys player but using the Push 2 instead of foot pedals. Did Ableton ever provide a resolution or workaround?

The solution I think is to not use transport for stopping, which sends an "All notes off" message, but to stop the clips and let the launch quantize settings of the clip decide for how long it plays out for. Much like what "Spore Sounds" suggested last year.

Also see this old discussion.

I know it's a long time since you wrote this, but could you please explain how it's a bug that playback stops when you stop transport? That is what naturally is expected, isn't it?

This is incorrect. An "all notes off" message is not supposed to cut the release phase of the envelopes.

For Operator and Simpler, the release phase is ignored and the sound is cut when you stop the transport.
For Analog for instance, the synth triggers the release as I would expect.

Anyway, I'll drop a line to Ableton, because nothing has changed in Live 10.
